The Saxophone

The Saxophone is an instrument made of brass with a wooden mouthpiece and is, therefore, a member of the woodwind family. The most popular saxophones are the baritone, alto, tenor, and soprano and are all played by pressing a key which then covers or lifts a pad from a sound hole. The Saxophone is often associated with Jazz music, but it is actually used in a wide variety of genres laying down beautiful melodies and solos.

Do I need my own Saxophone?

Having your own Saxophone is a big advantage because it means that you can practice between your Saxophone lessons which will definitely get you better results. As with any instrument, it is important to try before you buy. Even though you might not be able to play anything yet, holding the instrument in your hands can tell you a lot about the quality of the instrument. You can always ask your tutor for help with choosing your next instrument. If you are not sure if you want to buy a saxophone yet, some stores let you rent instruments for a small fee. If you are looking to buy a saxophone in London, you can try out Sax.co.uk in London

Why take Saxophone lessons?

You could ask many musicians “what instrument would you like to play?” It’s more than likely that many will say the Saxophone. Commonly, Jazz guitarists copy Saxophone melodies and solos. Try and picture this, you’ve been learning for a while and you’re playing your first solo in front of an audience. This requires discipline and focus through practice. But most importantly, your first performance will give you great motivation to learn as well as boosting self-esteem when you look at your progress.
