I believe the best route to progress is to enjoy playing and practicing our instruments, and with that in mind I always aim to tailor lessons to the individual needs and wants of each student. I am comfortable working towards grade exams or music medals, but am also happy to structure lessons more freely towards your personal goals.
As a jazz musician, I am able to incorporate harmony/improvisation/composition into lessons if desired, alongside work on reading, fundamentals of the instrument etc. I am also ideally placed to assist advanced students in their preparation for music college auditions - having myself studied at the Royal Academy of Music, and subsequently sat in the band for the audition process.
Some of my past students have gone on to study at Birmingham Conservatoire, Berklee College (US), and the NYJC summer school.
I am a proficient jazz pianist and am able to accompany students in a jazz setting.
