If you know your current password, you can change it to something different in the “My Account” section of the website. Click “password” and then “new password” to get started.
If you have forgotten your password or if you need to create one for the first time, from the login screen click “Create/Reset Password”. Enter your email address and we’ll send you an email with instructions. Note that your password needs to be a minimum of 8 characters and contain a mix of numbers, lower case, and capital letters.
- You can create a profile by purchasing lessons or sending a message to a teacher. Just click the “Buy Lessons” or “Send Message” button on a teachers’ profile to get started.
- Alternatively, you can click here to create your profile. Enter some basic personal information (we never share this information), create your password and click “Create Profile” to set up your account at MusicTeachers.co.uk.
You can enter the details of a child who is taking lessons when you create your profile, or add them later in the “My Account” section of your profile.
You can add multiple children to your account. When your teacher has created lessons for you, you’ll be able to assign the lessons to any person added to your account.
You can edit any of your personal information in the “My Account” section of your profile.
To begin, use our search tool to display teachers in your chosen instrument and location. Tutors who offer online lessons in your chosen instrument may also be displayed. Take your time to read through the teachers’s profile for details on their experience and teaching style. If the lessons are for a child, we recommend involving the child in this process too.
Every teacher is vetted for quality and safety but chemistry is something we leave to you. With this in mind, we recommend that you contact multiple teachers and ask questions to get a clear idea of who the best teacher is for you. Having a clear idea of your schedule and when the lessons could take place is also recommended.
On every teachers’ profile, you will find the “Send Message” button. If it’s your first time, you’ll be invited to create a student profile alongside sending the teacher a message. The more information you include in your message, the more likely you will find the right teacher for you.
Try to include:
- Who the lessons are for
- If the lessons are for a beginner, or a more experienced student.
- Any specific goals the student has.
- The possible days and times available.
Some teachers also display the “Buy Lessons” button on their profile. If you are certain that you want to proceed with a teacher, you can purchase lessons directly from their profile. All unused lessons are 100% refundable in case the scheduling should not work out, or you change your mind.
Most teachers are very responsive, however sometimes a short delay of a day or two can occur which is another reason why we recommend contacting multiple teachers. If you have concerns, please write to us at [email protected] and we will be happy to support you in finding a teacher.
On the teachers’ profile you will find displayed whether the teacher offers lessons:
- At their home
- In your home
- In a studio / rehearsal space. Note that it’s standard practice in private music education to add a transport fee, to cover the teachers’ time and expense if they will be travelling to your home.
Tutors usually offer lessons in multiple durations. The most common are 30 minutes, 45 minutes and 60 minutes, although other durations may be available.
Leaving a review is a great way of showing gratitude to your teacher and also helping other students see the quality of experience offered. You can leave a review from the button found on the dashboard inside your profile at MusicTeachers.co.uk. Note your review will be displayed on the teacher’s public profile.
If you have pre-purchased a lesson with your teacher using the “buy lessons” button on their profile, the system will take care of this for you. Simply agree the date and time of the lesson with your teacher and they will book the lesson in for you which will then be confirmed automatically.
If you have not pre-purchased a lesson, agree the date and time with your teacher who will book the lesson into the system for you. You’ll receive a notification inviting you to confirm and pay for the lesson. Just log into your account and click on the “Confirm Lessons” button from your dashboard or inbox.
You can add children to your profile during the sign-up process, or via the “my account” section once logged in. When confirming lessons, look out for the section titled “Who are the lessons for?” Here, you can assign any person named in your account to the lesson.
To enter, click on the “File Library” tab from your profile. Here, you can see any files that your teacher has uploaded for you. You can view or download any file via the icons on the right hand side.
To upload a file, click “upload file”. Once your chosen file is uploaded, you can view, edit or rename the file via the icons on the right.
Your teacher will be able to advise about what equipment you will need to bring or have access to ahead of your first lesson. If you do not own the required instrument, talk to your teacher about possible solutions.
Write to your teacher as soon as you know you need to cancel a lesson. Depending on the amount of notice given, you may be entitled to a refund, or a rescheduled lesson.
To join a lesson, simply click on the link from your dashboard, calendar, or inbox to meet your teacher in the OnlineClassRoom™. Lesson links will be available 2 hours before the start time.
The OnlineClassRoom™ is completely web based. No additional software is required to take your lessons online.
- For iPad or iPhone, please use Safari as your internet browser.
- For any other device, we strongly recommend Google Chrome as the internet browser. Amazon Kindle, Smart TVs and other such internet-capable devices that cannot run Chrome or Safari are not supported.
Our OnlineClassRoom™ is completely optimised for music education. Features available include:
- Interactive Piano and Interactive Whiteboard
- Screen / Audio Share
- Switching between multiple connected cameras during lessons
- External audio equipment supported (audio interface / microphone)
- Write messages and receive files from your teacher
- Your teacher can record snippets of the lesson for you. These, together with any other files shared in the lesson will be automatically stored in your file library
An internet connection with a bandwidth (speed) of 2 megabits per second (Mbps) for both upload and download is required. We recommend the use of an ethernet cable for the best experience. Checking the permissions to use camera and microphone in your browser settings is recommended prior to use in the online classroom. You can try out the OnlineClassRoom™ from your student dashboard at any time. Simply click on the “Click here to take a test session” button from your dashboard to check your camera and microphone settings are working.
If you choose to use the “buy lessons” feature, displayed on a teachers profile, you can simply choose the number of lessons you’d like to purchase and buy them upfront. Your chosen teacher will message you to arrange the schedule and book the lessons into our system.
Alternatively, send your teacher a message to detail your requirements. If agreeable to you, the teacher will send you a booking request for the agreed date and time, ready for you to confirm and pay.
Well over 90% of students choose to pay for their lessons using lesson blocks. Either from the “Buy lessons” button on a teacher’s profile, or from your student dashboard, you can play with the different lesson durations and fantastic discounts of up to 20% are available when you purchase a lesson block.
All unused lessons are 100% refundable and it’s possible to pay for your lesson block using instalment payments at no extra cost. You can choose to automatically renew your lesson block at the date and time of the last lesson from your current block. You can change this setting at any time from your student dashboard.
Every time you make a purchase at musicteachers.co.uk, you are sent a receipt by email for your records. You can also see a record of your past purchases in the “My account” section of your student profile.
Contact us via [email protected] if you have any problems making a payment. Our secure payment gateway accepts all major credit and debit cards. Occasionally, older cards may not have the required safety features setup and payments will fail. In this instance, try using a different card.
As is the industry standard, our teachers will add a small “transport fee” to partially cover their travel time and expense in coming to you. For single lessons, these fees will be added to the amount you have to pay for the lesson.
When using a lesson block, note the adjacent “Add transport fees” button from your student dashboard, where you will be able to add transport fees to coincide with your block.
All blocks can have automatic renewal enabled which is an agreement where the block is automatically renewed on the date of the last lesson in your current block. Information about this feature can be found on your receipt, in the terms and conditions and on your profile. Notice is sent out by email before blocks vouchers are renewed, on the date of the second-to-last lesson in the existing block. The payment is deducted from the payment card that was associated with the last purchase of vouchers for the given teacher. You can disable automatic renewals at any time on your student profile.
If you have chosen to pay in instalments and receive a notification that a payment has failed, please log in to your profile and update your card details. The failed payment will then be automatically taken from your saved card.
Every teacher displayed on the platform has been vetted for quality, experience and safety. We pride ourselves on having high standards of entry. All teachers displayed in the platform must have:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a music specialism (or equivalent)
- 3 years teaching experience
- The highest level of government background check in place
We recognise that keeping everyone safe must be the top priority for our platform. All teachers work to a code of conduct, safeguarding and child protection policy and lone working policy. In addition to the background check (enhanced DBS), all teachers must evidence that they are who they say they are and provide two references to further strengthen our safeguarding measures. Unlike other platforms, trained staff are available to both students and teachers to talk through and act upon any concerns that may arise. If you have a concern about the information displayed on a profile, the conduct of a teacher or staff member connected to the platform, or regarding an incident that took place in a lesson, you can report this to us in a number of ways:

With minor concerns (such as a concern about lesson quality, behaviour, progression over time or timekeeping) in the first instance we will always recommend that these are discussed directly between teacher and student. Where a party merits that this should be reported, we will always approach the issue restoratively. We will seek to establish facts and facilitate the repair of relationships wherever possible.
More serious concerns (particularly where a child or vulnerable person is at risk of harm) will be processed in keeping with our Managing Allegations Policy.
