About Lloyd H.

Lloyd is a passionate and inspiring woodwind teacher who specialises in flute. He enjoys taking a multifaceted approach in his lessons - developing instrumental technique and equipping students with the skills to practise and improve, while also developing a broader understanding and appreciation of music - creating a well-rounded musician. He believes in the importance of sharing his passion for music and students being able to enjoy lessons, so he adjusts his teaching style to the needs of each individual student. Lloyd is happy to set goals, including working towards ABRSM/Trinity exams (his students have consistently achieved Distinctions and Merits), but is also happy to explore a range of music beyond this - fostering enjoyment and creativity. He is able to travel to the student or teach online.

Having taught a range of ages in both in one-to-one and group lessons, Lloyd is comfortable teaching all abilities. He has worked on educational projects through the Britten Sinfonia and Royal Academy of Music, and combines teaching with his freelance performing career.

On top of his private teaching, Lloyd is also an Instrumental Tutor for Tower Hamlets Arts and Music Education Service (THAMES), where he teaches flute, recorder and bassoon in 1-1, small groups and whole classes across 4 different schools. He performs recitals across London and beyond as a soloist and with his flute-viola-harp trio (Albeo Trio) - as well as having a busy freelance orchestral diary.

Most recently Lloyd was awarded Second Prize at the 2024 Liverpool International Flute Competition. Other competition successes include being Highly Commended at the British Flute Society Competitions and CUMS Concerto Competition, and reaching the semi finals of the Royal Over-Seas League Annual Music Competition.

Lloyd graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with an MA in Flute Performance (with Distinction), and was awarded a DipRAM for outstanding final recital; his undergraduate studies were at Girton College, Cambridge. He holds an LRAM teaching diploma, an LRSM in Flute Performance, and Grade 8 Distinction in recorder, bassoon and saxophone.

Lloyd also teaches Music Theory, academic music and has provided Oxbridge application mentoring in the past; 100% of Lloyd's academic mentees went on to receive offers from Cambridge University to read Music.
