About Bethany
2016 Classical Saxophone Graduate of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Bethany has gone on to become an international woodwind player, regularly performing in venues across the UK and Europe. Recently debuting Ian Stewart’s composition of ‘Should Incidentally Fall’ with percussion at Blackheath Halls, Bethany has become an extremely versatile artist excelling in classical, jazz, pop and musical theatre.
Bethany is a keen doubler often performing in the pit bands of Musicals across the south and has performed as a soloist at a number of venues including Cadogan Hall, Grand Designs Live at the Excel Centre, Blackheath Halls and The Painted Chapel in Greenwich.
Bethany is able to offer lessons on saxophone, flute, clarinet and music theory. She has over 8 years experience in providing individual and group lessons in schools and at home to both children and adult learners. Bethany is passionate about teaching and understands that it is a process. Helping students to understand theory and musical concepts requires patience and different students process at different rates and have different preferences and learning styles. Bethany tailors her lesson to the needs of every student and constantly asks for feedback so she can adjust to suit their requirements. In order to help her students progress at a pace that feels natural to them, Bethany helps them set realistic goals and assists them in achieving them.
Teaching in Woodwind (clarinet/flute/saxophone)
Bethany is able to offer tuition on clarinet, flute and saxophone from beginner to advance.
Lessons include:
- Embouchure set up (making sure you have a suitable mouthpiece, ligature, reed and general embouchure positioning).
- Breathing exercise (introduce the idea of supporting notes from the diaphragm and breathing correctly when playing for long periods of time).
- Understanding notation and rhythm and effectively putting them into practice.
- Introducing different styles of music and developing a repertoire of contrasting pieces.
- Working on musical expression and interpreting different pieces of music.
Teaching in Music Theory
Bethany teaches music theory for those who wish to gain a further understanding of music and those who require ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory in order to progress with ABRSM exams.
