About Vicky
I have a friendly, approachable and patient manner and I’m a passionate advocate for inclusion (having particular experience working within SEN). Whatever your age, level of experience or way of learning, I am committed to providing fun and informative lessons in equal measure.
Hello and welcome! I am an experienced piano, oboe and music theory tutor, having taught students of all ages in schools, at music academies and privately. I hold both Bachelor’s and Masters degrees in Oboe Performance from the Royal College of Music and I studied Piano at Junior Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Aside from teaching, I work as a freelance orchestral musician and music support worker.
Lessons
Lessons can be tailored to your individual ambitions, needs and musical tastes, whether you are looking to take graded examinations or would prefer to play purely for enjoyment. I am non judgemental - we can go at whatever pace is comfortable for you and I assume no prior musical experience.
Lessons will carefully balance technical work with specific repertoire and improvisation interwoven with elements of music theory and multi-sensory approaches.
Lessons will end with a clear written and/or verbal summary to help you with consolidating the information.
First Lesson
The first lesson would begin with a discussion of your musical goals and musical tastes, some warm-up activities and an exploration of a piece or concept that is familiar to you.
Beginners
If you are a beginner pianist, we would spend some time learning the names of the different piano keys and exploring posture/hand positioning.
If you are beginning with music theory, we would spend some time learning and recognising musical notation - including different notes and rhythms.
Location
I offer online lessons (via the Online Classroom, Zoom or Teams) and in-person lessons at my home in Wickford, Essex.
Availability
In-person lessons can take place Mon-Tues, and Fri-Sat at a range of times. Some slots can be regular weekly sessions. Other slots can be more flexible. Due to being a professional performer, I often have events and performances so it may be necessary to be flexible at some points.
