About Neil D.
Neil has been a guitar teacher for the last 25 years. Twenty of these years have been full time, in schools for Surrey Arts. He has taught students from year three to sixth form, both individually and in small groups. Having had children himself, Neil feels he can relate to young people and make learning the guitar enjoyable and fun. A large part of Neil's time is spent preparing students for grade examinations and various performances for GCSE. One of his main aims is to convey a love of music and to cultivate a lifelong appreciation of the subject, as both a player and a listener. Neil still gets a huge sense of achievement when he takes a complete beginner and guides them through to become a competent performer and player. He has also taught many adults, offering classical, acoustic and electric guitar and music theory, from beginner to diploma level.
Lessons start with an informal chat and an introduction to the instrument. Once it is established which style of music the student wishes to learn and what they would like to achieve, an individual tuition plan can be developed to achieve these goals in a relaxed atmosphere. Technique, notation, ear training and playing will be part of each lesson. Neil offers ABRSM music theory, in addition to London College and Trinity College of Music, Classical, Acoustic and Rock and Pop guitar grades, from Initial to Grade 8/Diploma.
