About Susan J.
Susan has been teaching piano and music theory since 2013. She began taking piano lessons at the age of seven and went on to pass all ABRSM piano exams through to Grade 8. She has 2 music degrees: a Bachelor of Music Hons 2:1 from Cardiff University and an MA in Musicology from City University, London.
She has been teaching on Zoom since March 2020 when Covid compelled private music teaching to move online, and has a multi-camera, professional microphone and audio interface set-up in place for high-quality online lessons. She is based in the village of Barlaston, Staffordshire, and also teaches lessons in her home to those that can travel to Barlaston.
Susan has successfully guided numerous students through preparations for piano, singing and music theory exam grades with ABRSM & Trinity with 100% pass rate success, although she is equally happy teaching those who do not wish to take exams and just want to learn for fun. She teaches music theory from beginners up to Grade 8/A-level standard, which can be taught separately, or as part of a piano lesson. She also has a postgraduate acting diploma from The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA), London, and teaches acting and drama, including preparing students for LAMDA exams.
She recognises and encourages all the benefits that come from an appreciation and understanding of music including focus, discipline and confidence, and her approach is friendly, patient and supportive.
