About Michael L.
Michael Lawlor is a multi-talented musician, playing and teaching a wide variety of instruments, covering both woodwind and brass. He has played at Shakespeare’s Globe and for several years in outreach projects on the Tudors for Portsmouth City Museums Service. He has spent two periods of study of music in Indonesia, the first time covering gamelan in Bali and the second time Kacapi-Suling and Degung in the Sunda region of Java with a grant from the Stephen Arlen Memorial Trust. Michael has an M.A. in musicology from the University of Southampton.
Michael has taught students from six to 96, complete beginners to diploma level and aims to provide the right level of tuition and support that each student needs to achieve their goals. In addition to instrumental teaching, Michael gives workshops and lecture-recitals in schools and museums. He has also played lead trumpet in a Big Band and composes music for many different groups.
