About Michael

Michael is professional composer who has written music for world renowned orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, Michael was awarded 1st Prize for his orchestral composition, Selvedge, at this year's Toru Takemitsu Composition Award (a highly prestigious award for music composition).

Michael is currently completing a part-time PhD in Composition at the University of Cambridge where he has also been working as a outreach supervisor in Music for Gonville and Caius College.

Michael has a wide range of experience assisting groups of young people in learning songs from both popular music and the theater as well as teaching piano in a private context. Most recently, Michael has taught music as an outreach supervisor for Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge University examining and discussing masterpieces from both the popular and classical worlds of music.

Michael is friendly, open and encouraging. He likes to inspire creativity in his students as well as ensuring they are equipped with the key skills they need in order to pass examinations and assessments successfully. Michael is happy to teach online via Zoom or Skype or in person within a 10 mile radius of where he lives, in which case a small additional travel fee may be levied. Michael teaches beginner to intermediate piano students as well as music theory and composition (at all levels).

Michael was a Cambridge Higher Aspirations Scheme (CHAS) supervisor for Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge. He held supervisions with a group of year 12 students across the nine months of the programme, increasing their confidence in the subject area and preparing them to make an application to top universities.
