I started recorder lessons with Max having not played an instrument for decades, and since then, I’ve also resumed playing the flute (which I hadn’t touched since childhood) and taken up the low whistle. Max has made the journey really enjoyable, helping me explore Celtic and Chinese music as well as Klezmer. I’ve been really pleased with my progress, and he has helped me build my confidence. He’s an amazing teacher and performer, and it’s truly an honour to have access to his expertise. Thank you!

We are so glad to have found Max. My son started recorder lessons like most kids, at school. When we immigrated, we sought an online tutor to avoid giving up music lessons altogether. Max was open to our circumstances and willing to give it a go. We appreciate his flexibility and understanding when school holidays and other commitments clash, and he hasn't been put off by the time zone difference or daylight saving changes. Music books are hard to come by where we currently live, but Max has taken that in his stride too and given us plenty of time to purchase appropriate materials. When schoolwork and other commitments suddenly increased unexpectedly, Max adjusted his expectations so that my son was still able to make progress and feel positive about his efforts. My son's recorder playing really has improved but more importantly, he's having fun! Max has a lovely manner and is always positive. My son looks forward to his lessons and is motivated to practice and improve. I worried that instruction would be challenging online, but Max gives his full attention to the lesson, which seems to have the same effect on my son. Max values every effort and corrects in a positive way so that our son's playing has progressed noticeably. Max's enthusiasm for his instrument is infectious. When he demonstrated a new instrument he'd purchased on holiday, my son was fascinated and realised that his recorder could be a stepping stone to other wind instruments. Max shared a clip of famous composer Ludwig Goransson playing a recorder and other instruments for the TV series, The Mandalorian which sparked enthusiasm for the series. My son watches the programmes with his recorder to hand so that he can accompany the music and quite often plays regardless of whether the show is on or not. This week, with Max's encouragement, he plays his first solo at school: The Mandalorian theme tune. He's very excited. You would be fortunate to have Max as your (or your child's) tutor. We are.

I was a bit anxious about how online lessons would work for advanced grades but Max is an amazing teacher. He guided me through grade 7 flute exams. He is incredibly patient and flexible both with time changes for lessons as well as any technical issues I had. He is clearly knowledgeable and helped me explore a number of musical styles and also to understand some theory. He was open to my opinions. I was given detailed practice notes after every lesson. His lessons include a nice balance of some music theory and playing while learning. He even talked me through what to look for when buying a new flute. Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed flute lessons with Max.

I think that Max is an exceptional teacher, who is committed to his music. His great knowledge and support has helped me overcome my inhibitions, and take up the orchestral flute. His extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for all kinds of woodwind instruments has maintained and increased my motivation.

I really enjoy my lessons with Max. He is a great teacher and clearly passionate about folk music. His wide interests across many folk musics and instruments means he's comfortable and enthusiastic showing me how to play a Blugarian or bagpipe tune on my low whistle.

Max is incredibly patient and encouraging. As a "much older" pupil I really appreciate the way Max approaches my lessons. He knows exactly what pace is right for me and when and how to introduce new challenges.
