About Liz
I have been teaching for over ten years and enjoy helping my pupils discover more about the flute. I make lessons fun and enjoyable whether and want to bring the best out in all my pupils and meet their needs.
My pupils range from complete beginners to advanced and I work with them on anything they want from exams, to concerts and auditions. I have worked with several organisations including the Birmingham Music Service and coached both the flute quartet and flute choir at the Junior Birmingham Conservatoire and am a current teacher at the University of Chichester.
Teaching in Flute
Elizabeth teaches flute from beginners to advanced students from age 6 and up.
There is the option for working around graded exams or not depending on the pupils’ personal preference. Exam boards that are used are ABRSM and Trinity and also graded theory exams if the pupils requires it. My aim in my lessons is for a pupil to enjoy making music along with becoming a good musician. Both musical and non musical aspects are included in a lesson. Musical aspects include sound technique and pieces and also including theory when needed. Non musical aspects include looking at posture and performance practise. The first half of a lesson normally focuses on technique and scales and the second half on music and other aspects of being a musician.
Genre
Elizabeth teaches in every genre and also takes requests! She is classical trained but can teach any style.
First lesson
First lessons include a lot of questions from me! I like to know about my pupils what there interests are in music and other hobbies. Also to find out how they will approach practise and what the purpose of the lessons are and if they have an end goal. I always bring a selection of music and styles and give examples of the different kind of route teaching could go down for adults. With young children, games are always included.
Beginners
Beginners have lots of games and exercises - both musical and non musical! And also lots of playing from me to shows them some different music and styles.
