About Ju-Lee H.
Ju-Lee Hong is a classically trained cellist and musicologist. She plays the cello on a freelance basis with professional ensembles and also writes articles and reviews for peer-reviewed journals.
Ju-Lee organises lessons relevant to students depending on their individual needs. She plans to help her students by advising and helping to strengthen how to improve their techniques and musicianship skills in cello playing and music theory. She is available for preparations of examinations on ABRSM Grade 1-8 and diplomas (with 100% pass rate), and of auditions into Conservatoire entrance.
At the first three sessions, she assesses the standard of students in cello playing and/or music theory through a friendly atmosphere. She then provides a rough time-scale of what levels of Grades in the ABRSM exam would be appropriate to take and how long (and how many lessons) it will take to achieve the particular levels. Ju-Lee's past students usually achieve Merit and Distinction in their ABRSM grades. Her previous tutoring experience includes a private tutor and working as a visiting tutor in independent schools, ACS School, Egham.
Ju-Lee also supports students to maintain music playing as their lifetime hobby by providing adult refresher sessions and orchestral repertoire sessions. She is experienced in teaching both complete beginners to advanced (music graduates and semi-professionals) and pre-school children to adults.
Ju-Lee studied the cello at Trinity College of Music, London (Trinity Laban), and (Royal) Birmingham Conservatoire leading to an MA and an MPhil in cello performance. She is currently completing a PhD in music, at the University of Glasgow.
