Adaptable to peoples circumstances, obviously a brilliant guitar expert!

By far the best guitar teacher I've ever had. He's intuitive, adaptable around the student, patient, and fun to be around. The level of my guitar has responded accordingly. Can't say enough good things about Jonathan.

Jonathan has been an outstanding teacher. From the very beginning, it was clear how passionate he is about music and about teaching. He’s not just someone who plays well, he’s a true educator. Every lesson is balances, with a great mix of theory and practical application that really helped me understand the "why" behind what I was playing. He was incredibly patient with me, especially during times when life and work made it hard for me to stay consistent. He never made me feel guilty for falling behind, and instead always encouraged me to keep going at my own pace. When I first started lessons, I was self-taught and stuck in a rut, basically limited to one strumming pattern. Jonathan helped me break through that plateau and pushed me just enough to start progressing again, both technically and musically. Overall, I’d highly recommend Jonathan to anyone looking for a supportive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate music teacher.

Came in as an intermediate player. Enjoyed our lessons and learnt a ton about guitar technique and music theory! Lessons plans followed my interests but also pushed me down new avenues, when appropriate. Would definitely recommend!

Jonathan has easily been my best guitar teacher to date. We have been playing music I enjoy and he explains the theory behind each piece we do which helps bring it to life. A key thing for me was how he taught me best practice mechanics i.e how to hold the guitar, how to strum, what specific fingers do at what times. Breaking it down to this level was so incredibly useful for me and since then playing the guitar has got so much easier. Also. my ear for music has definitely improved which was a big thing for me. His style allows you to use your senses a bit more than just simple sheet music. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to improve their guitar skills! Thank you!

Johnathan is a great teacher, always making the lesson a pleasure to go to. He tailors them to what you want to learn but also knows exactly how to challenge and push you in the right areas. I have quickly made good progress with my bass guitar playing, and that is in large part due to the fun and enjoyment I have during the lessons.

He's got a great knowledge of music theory and technique which keeps the lessons interesting and varied. He's clearly a scholar of music as well as a teacher. I did not know hot to play the ukulele but since Jonathan started teaching me 8 months ago I am now able to play some of my favorite tunes with it. Jonathan is extremely knowledgeable, passionate, so enthusiastic and makes learning such a fun experience. I am not only learning the technical aspect of how to play an instrument but also the ins and outs of music. Jonathan provides great inside into music culture, music theory and more. My two children, who are both primary school age, started learning the ukelele and guitar with Jonathan earlier this year and I am astounded by their progress and ongoing enjoyment to learn. Jonathan is a brilliant teacher - he understands how important and integral the combination of mind and body is to learning and playing an instrument. Jonathan has been teaching my eight/nine year old son since August 2023 and he has made remarkable progress with his guitar playing. Not only that but he loves his guitar lessons, and Jonathan is clearly excellent at communicating and inspiring children and young people. He keeps the lessons light and entertaining and I can hear them both laughing together when they have lessons at our house. Jonathan allows my son to be involved in the decisions about what pieces they learn, whilst ensuring that they are suitable for his little hands on the guitar! I'm so pleased to be having music lessons with Jonathan. Having spent recent years as an adult learner bouncing between online courses (Truefire, Artistworks, YouTube, etc.) and books, I became frustrated with a lack of progress despite daily "practice" that amounted to hundreds of hours a year. I've always loved and been fascinated by music but never had lessons before. As I write this, we've had ten electric guitar lessons. Jonathan is encouraging, makes our lessons fun and guides my learning in ways relevant to my personal goals. I've appreciated Jonathan's constructive feedback and ideas to address my specific areas for improvement. Our lessons have also provided much-needed structure and direction to my practice hours between sessions. One pleasant surprise is how much Jonathan's teaching background, understanding of how people learn, and focus on broader musicianship have benefitted my learning. Jonathan is an outstanding person, a gifted musician (composer, guitarist) and a highly accomplished communicator. His broad range of musical interests suit him ideally to the role of teaching children and young people.

Jonathan worked for me as a guitar, double bass and bass guitar teacher for a number of years at an independent school. All his lessons were excellent, as evidenced by his high pupil retention rate, and number of glowing references from ex pupils and parents. He was also really keen to get involved in many other aspects of music making at school, in order to help develop pupils' love for music; for example, staying late for concerts and helping pupils develop their composition skills.
