Johnathan is a great teacher, always making the lesson a pleasure to go to. He tailors them to what you want to learn but also knows exactly how to challenge and push you in the right areas. I have quickly made good progress with my bass guitar playing, and that is in large part due to the fun and enjoyment I have during the lessons.

I did not know hot to play the ukulele but since Jonathan started teaching me 8 months ago I am now able to play some of my favorite tunes with it. Jonathan is extremely knowledgeable, passionate, so enthusiastic and makes learning such a fun experience. I am not only learning the technical aspect of how to play an instrument but also the ins and outs of music. Jonathan provides great inside into music culture, music theory and more. Jonathan is a brilliant teacher - he understands how important and integral the combination of mind and body is to learning and playing an instrument. He’s extremely knowledgeable about music/ the guitar. His teaching style is welcoming and combines the enjoyment of playing music, as well as technique and the foundations of music theory. Jonathan is the best teacher I have ever had in any subject. My guitar playing and confidence has come on so much in such a short space of time. Jonathan has been teaching my eight/nine year old son since August 2023 and he has made remarkable progress with his guitar playing. Not only that but he loves his guitar lessons, and Jonathan is clearly excellent at communicating and inspiring children and young people. He keeps the lessons light and entertaining and I can hear them both laughing together when they have lessons at our house. Jonathan allows my son to be involved in the decisions about what pieces they learn, whilst ensuring that they are suitable for his little hands on the guitar! I'm so pleased to be having music lessons with Jonathan. Having spent recent years as an adult learner bouncing between online courses (Truefire, Artistworks, YouTube, etc.) and books, I became frustrated with a lack of progress despite daily "practice" that amounted to hundreds of hours a year. I've always loved and been fascinated by music but never had lessons before. As I write this, we've had ten electric guitar lessons. Jonathan is encouraging, makes our lessons fun and guides my learning in ways relevant to my personal goals. I've appreciated Jonathan's constructive feedback and ideas to address my specific areas for improvement. Our lessons have also provided much-needed structure and direction to my practice hours between sessions. One pleasant surprise is how much Jonathan's teaching background, understanding of how people learn, and focus on broader musicianship have benefitted my learning. We've had some really enjoyable conversations on these topics, and I've learned a lot. All in all, I'd highly recommend lessons with Jonathan.

Jonathan is an outstanding person, a gifted musician (composer, guitarist) and a highly accomplished communicator. His broad range of musical interests suit him ideally to the role of teaching children and young people.

Jonathan worked for me as a guitar, double bass and bass guitar teacher for a number of years at an independent school. All his lessons were excellent, as evidenced by his high pupil retention rate, and number of glowing references from ex pupils and parents. He was also really keen to get involved in many other aspects of music making at school, in order to help develop pupils' love for music; for example, staying late for concerts and helping pupils develop their composition skills.
