About Jane
I believe music should always be a source of joy, not stress and there IS room for laughter at the keys when notes go astray. It's part of the journey! Music builds confidence in children and renews forgotten self fulfilment in adults.
I have taught for around thirty years in many schools, primary and senior and many students - young and old - (my eldest was 76 and I got her through Grade 6!)
At the heart of it all I want you to succeed!
QUALIFICATION
Piano (not keyboard) ABRSM to Grade 8 and ABRSM theory to Grade 5
I have 100% pass rate. Distinctions and merits are regular.
Exams encourage progress. I am happy to not do.
ABOUT YOU
I work at every individuals pace. No two people are the same. I don’t always plan lessons as every day can reveal a different story. A child can come in having had a bad day at school and then I work on helping them to leave with a smile.
Music is a healer without doubt. I admire adults beginning a journey and embrace their shyness and difficulties with patience and encouragement. No one is beyond a little tune within a few weeks.
We will enjoy and embrace all music genres from classical to Spanish, duets to bossa novas.
I have done many school performances but now work from home where a lesson could end on time or run over by half an hour. I am extremely easy going helping students to relax - who cares if a wrong note or two is played? It's part of the journey. I work hard at the keys. But my main aim of all is giving everyone a window to the music world. There is nothing more joyous than witnessing those small breakthrough moments, children not wanting to leave and giving a groan (yes! I do sometimes have this) or siblings fighting over the keys wanting to play more tunes to me.
ABOUT ME
My own teacher, before he died (and just before I was due to be entered for my degree exam) said he wanted me to teach as I had ‘technical ability and musicality' and that it was 'a gift’. I, as a regular teen ignored his advice. When my eldest child started school I was approached by a lady in the playground who heard that I played the piano and would I teach her son. I was taken aback to be honest. I repeatedly said no. I gave in on the condition it was a trial. One child became two, then three. Soon I had a tribe and life began to revolve around piano once more.
How wrong I had been to ignore my teacher. How grateful I am to him now...
