So far I have had three lessons with James. James is a brilliant teacher who makes the lessons fun and easy to understand. I am learning the cornet and definitely couldn't have picked a better teacher who shares my love of New Orleans Jazz. This is the style that I would love to learn. James has a wealth of information that really helps me with my lessons. I can't wait to progress further with my learning. I definitely highly recommend James as a music teacher.

James takes a holistic approach to teaching trumpet, as well as technical; with a focus on how to incorporate the body and mind into playing, improving and enjoying the trumpet

I was a little uncertain about returning to a trumpet / cornet after a 30+ year break. But I needn’t have been. James has taken me back to first principles and offered great guidance and insight as we have explored some of the fundamentals in an interesting and thoughtful way suited to an adult pupil (embouchure, breathing, intonation, listening, timing etc). I enjoy the attention to detail and Jame’s mindful approach to the instrument. We have also started taking small steps into the world of improvisation. James puts a lot of thought in to how he teaches and how I learn, with the result that lessons always feel tailored to me. He has a good library of teaching material and always provides notes of the lesson with tips, links and reminders which I can refer to between lessons. I have both face-to-face and on-line lessons, and both work very well. James is friendly, patient and encouraging and I always leave a lesson feeling that I am developing my playing, motivated and above all enjoying the journey.
