I'm a beginner bass player and have been taking lessons from Giovanni for about 2 months now. Although I am still a beginner and have a lot to learn, my playing has improved significantly with Giovanni's teaching. Giovanni's teaching style is relaxed and laid back but that does not mean he lets me get away with sloppy playing! He has a holistic approach which means I've been learning a mix of technique, theory and new songs - this means the lessons are always interesting. I'd definitely recommend him as a teacher.

I’ve been having lessons with Giovanni for a few months now. He has taken me from not being able to play bass at all (although I had some experience playing guitar) to learning how to play simple walking bass lines, bossa novas, and jazz funk. He is an enthusiastic teacher who is also clearly an excellent player himself (I recently saw him at PizzaExpress Jazz Club with the Bea Asurmensi Quintet). He puts an emphasis on playing/ jamming whilst also helping me develop a good theoretical understanding of jazz (and music generally). He also offers a great balance between accommodating the student’s goals and providing new ideas/ directions to explore.

Giovanni is a fantastic teacher. I recently started playing again after many years, and I was kind of scared to start playing again. Giovanni is professional, kind and motivating. I work full time and I’m always tired when I arrive to my evening lesson, but then I leave feeling happy, energised and wanting to play more and more. Giovanni’s approach to music and teaching is fresh and flexible, I very much recommend it.

Giovanni is a confident and conscientious educator. I would highly recommend him for this teaching position on his merit and commitment.
