About Emma B.
Emma has enjoyed 19 years experience teaching the Violin and Musicianship in Suffolk schools and is now excited to be able to dedicate her time to teaching pupils privately, either Online or in Ipswich; from pre-school age to adult.
Emma grew up in a very musical family where music was a core part of every day life. Her father was a professional double bass player and her mother a pianist and teacher of violin and viola.
Emma played the Violin from a very young age and started with formal lessons at the age of 7. This was shortly followed by Piano lessons and she has always enjoyed Singing at every opportunity.
After completing her Music Degree near London in 1999, Emma went on to graduate from a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2001, with a Specialist focus on String Teaching.
Emma has worked as a Peripatetic Violin and Music Teacher, teaching in schools in Hampshire, Surrey and for the last 14 years here in Suffolk, where she now lives in Ipswich. Over the years she has worked with hundreds of children in both primary and secondary schools; developing and nurturing their inner musical skills and talent.
Emma is keen to work with Children from the age of 3 upwards (with parental support) as well as with Adults.
With her young beginner Violinists, Emma uses Singing, Movement Exercises and Ear-Training; playing Folk Tunes on the piano/keyboard before later transferring them onto the Violin; a combination of ideas from the Kodaly, Montessori and Suzuki teaching philosophies.
Emma would also like to guide and support older pupils with their technique, tone production and general musicianship; preparing them for exams through the ABRSM should they wish to undertake these.
During your first lesson, Emma will chat with you to find out what you hope to achieve from your lessons. She would hope to cover many aspects of learning in each lesson including; warm up stretches, checking for correct posture and alignment (including violin position and bow-hold), listening and intonation (often including some singing), some work on rhythm and pulse, playing by ear as well as some note-reading (when and if you are ready for this element to be added).
Emma offers Lessons both in-person and Online.
She currently teaches during the day (weekdays) for preschool children and home-schooled children as well as Adults. She also has some availability after school and on Saturday mornings.
Please message Emma if you have any questions regarding lessons or availability.
