About Elisabeth V.
Elisabeth is a qualified and experienced music teacher specializing in the flute and recorder. She is a member of ISM (Incorporated Society of Musicians). She holds a BA mus. degree in Early music performance (wooden flutes and recorders) and music education. Elisabeth teaches the flute, recorder and tin whistle from beginners to advanced students. All ages are welcome from 6 years onwards. Elisabeth is a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher who loves to share her passion for music with others. She has over 10 years of experience and is also an active performer. Elisabeth trained in Germany but is now based in Northern Ireland and offers online and in-person-teaching.
In her lessons, she focuses on building strong technique, good sound and also the wider aspects of becoming a musician such as music theory, listening skills, improvisation, musical context and style. She strives to make lessons fun and engaging, keeping you motivated on your journey. While practice and the right technique is very important, enjoying the music is even more so!
Elisabeth can help guide you through graded exams from elementary through to grade 8 (classical: ABRSM, traditional music: LCM).
Having first trained classical herself, Elisabeth is a versatile musician who moves across genres. You can learn classical music as well as early music (renaissance and baroque), or traditional Irish music. She is no stranger to Jazz or Klezmer music either!
If you choose to learn classical flute, recorder or baroque flute, the focus will be mainly on instrumental practice, getting to know classical repertoire, learning to read music notation, ornamentation and improvisation.
Traditional Irish flute/tin whistle
If you would like to learn Irish traditional flute or tin whistle, the focus will naturally be more on learning tunes by ear, although you will also learn about music theory and notation.
During your first lesson, you are invited to have an informal chat with Elisabeth to get to know each other a little and to discuss what goals you want to achieve. If you have been playing your instrument already, this is also to work out if there are any particular areas you would like to improve on. Elisabeth will try to make you feel comfortable and at ease - you might want to play a piece of music that you already know.
No need to bring anything expect your instrument - and yourself!
If you are a beginner, Elisabeth will let you know the basics of where and how to start and also, if needed, give advice about suitable instruments (she knows this can be a little overwhelming at the start!). If you have any questions regarding lessons, Elisabeth will be more than happy to get back to you if you leave a message!
