Catherine graduated with a BA hons degree in music at Southampton University and commenced a career as a percussion teacher. She has always been a passionate educator and has held teaching positions in music services, private schools, such as the prestigious Downe House School, state schools and privately. Along side teaching percussion, Catherine has also taught piano and music theory privately. Catherine is a dedicated teacher who delivers good quality teaching and uses a wide range of styles of music to enthuse students to embrace music. Some of Catherine's students have gone on to further study music and now have successful careers as performers and teachers. Catherine enjoys being Director of Surreys County Percussion Ensembles. She has also held the position of Percussion lead for Surrey Arts. Catherine is an advocate of EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) and has also recently been awarded a grant from the Arts Council to research music from different parts of the world to enhance her teaching practice.
Catherine teaches piano to beginners and intermediate level. Music theory to grade 5 and percussion and drum kit to advanced level. She is competent at teaching adults and children.
If students want to take exams, she is happy to prepare them using ABRSM, Trinity or Rock school. However Catherine never pushes students to enter exams. Her aim is for students to enjoy lesson and make progress and that can be done without the pressure of exams.
