About Anna B.
Anna is a Saxophone Tutor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, a touring and recording artist (currently a member of Jools Holland's Rhythm And Blues Orchestra) and a music arranger and copyist. She has taught in further and higher education for over 15 years, having held the position of BMus Professional Musicianship Course Leader at BIMM Birmingham, Head of Music Theory and Leadership Team member at ACM Birmingham.
Classically trained at the Birmingham Conservatoire where she gained first class BMus Honors degree in Saxophone Performance, Anna now teaches across many styles, from classical to jazz, pop and funk as well as music theory up to ABRSM Grade 5. Her specialist areas of saxophone tuition include improvisation, jazz theory teaching students who are interested in non-classical styles but who may be anxious about where to start or what to do. Her approach to tuition is that it should be enjoyable, engaging and sufficiently challenging for the learner and that they should be able to measure their progress and have a sense of achievement as they acquire new skills and develop existing ones.
Whether the learner's goal is to progress through music exams, to master a specific musical style, to learn how to improvise, to prepare for an audition at a music college, or to play just for fun, she is happy to help them work towards any of these goals and welcomes students of all levels and ages from beginner to advanced, child, adult and neurodiverse learners. Anna believes that there is always a way to unlock a student’s learning potential and to help them work towards their personal goals.
