I'm Alexei, and I'm a music tutor with my home studio based in Heaton. I graduated with a First Class Honours in Popular & Contemporary Music from Newcastle University, and a merit in my Masters studying Creative Arts Practice. I'm a performer in several bands with 20+ years of guitar and song-writing experience spanning many styles from salsa to psychedelia. I pride myself on being just as good at helping beginners get started, and intermediates fill the gaps in their existing knowledge - we can study whatever kind of music you would like. My main goal is to help students achieve some deeper understanding and satisfying development as quickly as possible. This will be a joy for us both as my enthusiasm for music is more infectious than you could ever imagine!
For anybody looking to just get started or learn purely for the joy of doing so- it's without doubt: I am the most fun tutor going, I guarantee it. I aim to make sure all of my lessons are really enjoyable and we always have good fun in class. I teach guitar, keys, vocals, composition, production and theory in any combination depending on my student's interests. This means my lessons can be really versatile and perhaps more meaningfully practical than some other tuition services.
I try my hardest to make my students feel relaxed as I'm well aware of how daunting and frustrating making progress can seem sometimes. I like to think I'm a very reassuring teacher and I'm particularly good at helping students manage their confidence. I've been able to help students put on gigs and collaborate, and get involved with the wider creative community. I've helped students get their music onto local radio/magazines, get started on press packages, shoot music videos; all kinds of exciting stuff.
I can teach about all the studio skills and equipment required to do professional-grade recording. This is definitely something fun to look into for anyone keen to learn about how music-making works, I encourage even my beginners to start making recordings! I have experience in several software platforms, but we can talk about whichever you prefer. We can discuss songwriting techniques and music theory to whatever depth it interests you. I've been known to get other artists and industry-types I know to talk to my students about composing, producing, and all sorts of topics.
If you think you might be the kind of person that would enjoy the way I teach, do check out my testimonials for reassurance, and please feel free to enquire! I'd love to hear from you and see if we can work out something fun and satisfying for us both.
