About Jacob Rider
Hey there, I’m Jake!
I have been playing and teaching Saxophone for over 14 years and completed a degree in BA Hons in Music on the Jazz pathway at Leeds Conservatoire in 2017. In addition to performing at a professional level I teach Saxophone, beginner Simple System Flute, beginner Piano and beginner Guitar. I firmly believe that passing on the gift of music making is integral to being a musician. Whilst primarily specialising in Jazz I have studied Classical music with a ABRSM Grade 8 Distinction and played in Pop bands throughout my career meaning I am capable of teaching to suit a wide range of tastes. I have performed professionally in Austria, Germany and Holland as well as across the UK. I am also a member of Ancient Infinity Orchestra which has garnered radio play from the BBC as well as abroad with the album ‘River of Light’ on Gondwana Records.
Whether you are just beginning to read music or looking to hone your improvisation skills with advanced jazz harmony I am happy to help you learn in a collaborative and engaging manner that’s best for you. There will be an emphasis on learning the music you want to play and the joy that this brings to you and the people around you. Whether this is through playing written music, writing your own compositions or learning how to improvise is up to you.
If you are interested in exploring the Spiritual aspects of music I am particularly keen to bring a mindful and meditative approach to music. This would take the form of various concepts and exercises as well as reflecting on how the process of creating music can effect how you perceive and interact with the world to bring benefit to your own life as well as those around you. These approaches are applicable whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced student and I’m really excited to share them with you.
