About Yohane-Liam Osafo
*My main availability is currently Mondays from 18:00 at Christ Church Colliers Wood, Tuesdays from 17:00 in Norbury, Norwood and surrounding areas and Wednesdays between 16:00-18:00 in Euston, Merton, Streatham or Norwood. If you fall slightly out of these times or areas e.g. Wandsworth, Streatham, Croydon, still be sure to get in touch because I may still be teaching, rehearsing or performing nearby on certain days of the week!*
I teach most age groups including during the day with mostly adults (whether retired, working from home or otherwise!) and homeschoolers, afternoons/evenings with mostly primary and high school aged students and in a high school setting. Each lesson provides a relaxed environment for young beginners to casual adult professionals to learn essential technique, listening, theory and musicianship, setting every student up to practice, develop and perform with confidence.
In your lessons with me, as well as learning a new instrument and the joys that music brings to everyday life, you’ll also be given the tools to practice well for sustained consistent improvement and the excitement of experiencing measurable progress in your lessons. By learning an instrument in this way, we’ll also nurture transferable skills that will be useful in all areas of life and school.
As somebody who grew up learning music in an area with little connection to the wider world of music education I also work to keep my students informed and prepared to be able to access wider performance opportunities that will accelerate their learning, for example, by connecting students to appropriate ensembles and music hubs they are ready to join. For school aged students this means they’ll be able to connect with other young musicians from different schools, perform in world class venues, travel on summer tours and where appropriate, be directed towards school programmes and scholarships for more focussed musical training.
Each lesson will look at technique, aural and theory skills and musical expression in a way that allows the student to fully enjoy the music making process as well as preparing for any exams you may want to take. I myself started learning to play through ABRSM piano before earning 8 distinctions in violin grades 1-8 in less than 6 years, so I know what it takes to arrive at exams fully prepared to succeed.
Lessons typically take place at the student's home. If you’re the parent...
