About William

Will just moved across the ocean to London from Ann Arbor, Michigan, having worked both as an educator at the University of Michigan music department and a freelance musician, and now proudly joins Musictutors to share the craft.

From intermediate to advanced levels, Will teaches the saxophone and jazz improvisation in an engaging manner.

A typical three-step lesson for saxophone:

1. Breathing/Sound development- long tones, overtones/harmonics, meditative breathing exercises
2. Gettin' 'round the instrument- scales and arpeggios, chromatic shapes up and down
3. Repertoire- songs, tunes, pieces

A typical three-step lesson for improvisation and aural skills:

1. Rhythmic communion- clapping/tapping rhythmic cycles, basic polyrhythms
2. Harmonic movement- identifying intervals and chords, hearing patterns
3. Repertoire- songs, tunes, pieces

Various of the above elements subject to reduction, reorganization, addition, subtraction, emphasis; all depending on what moves you forward!

Will is also experienced in graded music examination and can prepare students accordingly, having himself achieved diplomas in both classical cello and jazz saxophone.
