About Will
Will is an experienced teacher of Piano and Voice; graduating with a degree in Music from the University of Oxford, he has taught hundreds of students over a wide range of standards. He is passionate about sharing music with as many people as possible no matter what their aims!
Will Jeys (BA (OXON), HonFTCSM, FGMS, FFSC, DipABRSM), a graduate of the University of Oxford, is an experienced solo, orchestral, chamber musician and teacher. He is a freelance singer and conductor, singing with Ex Cathedra, St Chad's Cathedral, Coventry Cathedral and Lichfield Cathedral. He believes that music is a universal language that everyone has the right to learn, and wants to share his wide ranging musical experience with as many pupils as possible.
What Will offers
Will offers lessons on Piano, Voice, Organ and Trumpet as well as academic theory lessons. He is currently based in Stockport / Manchester and can give lessons at his house, online or at students' houses.
He takes a classical approach in his lessons, with emphasis on technique (including scales, arpeggios, technical exercises) whilst implementing them in learned repertoire. He is keen that students develop a good technique at an early age to not only make playing easier, but to prevent injury or strain.
Will is experienced in guiding pupils through ABRSM and Trinity grades from grade 1 through to diploma level, including sight reading, scales and aural tests.
He also offers specifically aural and theory lessons to help developing musicians' wider progress.
The first lesson
Will uses the first lesson to get to know the student a bit and tries to understand what they want out of his lessons, then going on to explain to them how he will get them to achieve this goal.
If the student is a beginner, Will will ask about the pupil's previous musical experience and how much experience they have with the instrument. If little, Will will provide a physical demonstration of the instrument by playing a short piece and talking briefly about how the instrument works.
If there is sufficient time, the student will be asked to get themselves familiar with the instrument by learning posture and correct hand position.
Please get in touch if interested!
Will welcomes enquires from anybody, and can't wait to meet you!
