About Will

Will is a drummer/percussionist, composer and educator currently based in Sheffield, UK. While his principal study is in jazz tradition, Will’s unique playing style is also indebted to a wider variety of creative, improvised and world musics; the result is a sound that prioritises melodic and rhythmic articulation.

Will has over 10 years of playing experience, in which time he has been lucky enough to be a member and bandleader of different creative projects both in Sheffield, across the UK and abroad (most notably including performances at: London’s Pleasance Theatre, The International Music Festival in Brno, Y Not Festival, Tramlines Festival, Leeds Jazz Festival, Lancaster Jazz Festival, The Leadmill and Sheffield Jazz). Since graduating from The University of Sheffield with a BA Hons in Music and Philosophy, Will continues to take a rigorous approach to developing his own ability by constantly engaging with new musics and new approaches to playing, further widening the scope of his teaching capacity.

Will's teaching style aims to guide students around obstacles in their playing and towards sources of inspiration, rather than prescribing a set approach for everyone: Will believes it is vital to encourage every student to pursue what they enjoy in order to nurture a healthy relationship with their instrument and ultimately ensure they have the autonomy to realise what kind of musician they want to be.

Will is a patient, friendly and enthusiastic individual that recognises that while no student is the same, every student has the potential to become a great musician. Beginners more than welcome!
