About Tuulia Hero

Tuulia Hero is a multi-award-winning Finnish concert violinist and chamber musician, as well as an accomplished improviser and educator based in London. Playing a Goffriller violin from 1676, generously lent to her by the Beare’s International Violin Society, Tuulia is a founding member of the Paddington Trio and Ensemble+. She currently teaches at the Royal Northern College of Music (2023-) and leads masterclasses and improvisation workshops at festivals such as the prestigious Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival.

Driven by her passion for innovation and collaboration, Tuulia gave her debut in 2012 at the Kauniainen International Music Festival. Since then, she has performed at venues ranging from the Presidential Palace in Finland to Wigmore Hall in London and the Konzerthaus in Berlin. Among her many accolades are First Prize at the Parkhouse Award (Wigmore Hall), First Prize at the Royal Overseas League Keyboard and Strings Prize, the Stradivarius Award (University of the Arts Helsinki), and Ensemble of the Year (Paddington Trio). The Paddington Trio recently received a 5-star review in The Guardian and has upcoming appearances at venues such as the Amsterdam Concertgebouw (NL), Alte Oper Frankfurt (DE), and Lucerne Chamber Music Society (CH).

A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she was a holder of The Eduard and Marianna Loeser Scholarship, Tuulia completed her Master’s in Performance degree studying with Levon Chilingirian, Adrian Brendel, and David Dolan. She credits her most influential mentorships to Ivry Gitlis, Marc Danel (Danel Quartet), Günther Pichler (Alban Berg Quartet), Philip Setzer (Emerson Quartet), and members of the Ébène Quartet. Her musical education has been enhanced by participation in prestigious programs such as Prussia Cove (UK), Yellow Barn Young Artist Program (USA), and Schleswig-Holstein International Masterclasses (Germany).

Tuulia believes in a holistic approach to music education, integrating elements of breathing, body awareness, and active listening into her lessons. She is a passionate advocate for improvisation, drawing on her studies in classical and jazz improvisation to unlock students' musical potential and encourage creativity. Tuulia offers flexible lesson formats to accommodate diverse learning styles and schedules and currently teaches from her home in Hoxton, and she has also worked at several online platforms.
