About Toby
Hi, I'm Toby and I LOVE Music, especially the ability to express yourself through song. With Grade 8 in both Singing (ABRSM) and Verse and Prose (LAMDA) I strive to bring out more than just the words and a tune when singing; the story, the meaning and the emotion are what turn a song from a sung theme into a melody.
I have a history in Musical Theatre, Choirs and small Bands. In my early years I trained as a chorister partaking in religious ceremonies, competitions and weddings. In my College years I performed as Oliver (from Oliver Twist) and as Captain Von Trapp (The Sound of Music) embodying different characters predominantly through song. Throughout my college years I was also in a choir and took part in an end of year talent show, winning with the song 'The Other Side' (The Greatest Showman).
During my studies I am now part of 3 small bands, singing and leading worship within the local community. Within my University I am blessed to have been chosen to be the Band Leader and I find myself playing at least twice a week with rehearsals around the clock. Alongside this I have been invited to play at gigs and services independently where it is just me and my acoustic guitar. The simplicity, and yet the beauty that this style portrays has made it a real favourite of mine.
My passion for song and its power has led me to want to teach others. There are many people of all ages who wish they could sing with confidence, and connect emotionally with an audience and these are aspects of singing I promise to develop. Furthermore the technique of growing your voice in strength, range and stamina will be a staple part of making sure you learn how to pursue singing in a reliable and safe way.
