About Tom

I try to keep my lessons enjoyable and engaging by listening to what the student enjoys and adapt to the way they learn. I will also give a lot of listening suggestions of amazing music that can inspire and lead to new discoveries in the world of music.

I have completed a BMus undergraduate degree at RWCMD where gained experience performing on many different stages as a soloist and cornet player in brass bands. I then moved up to Manchester to complete my PGCE last year where I gained experience teaching Eduqas KS3 and GCSE music, as well as 1:1 teaching. I am currently working on completing a Masters of Education at RNCM and will be gaining much more experience in other forms of teaching throughout the year.

A typical lesson with me will involve warm up exercises and talks about preferred music styles, as well as how the student is feeling about their playing or musical knowledge. I will try to find music that the student can engage with and will find exciting but also challenge them to become more confident.

Sharing my love of music is what motivates me to be a good tutor. I want my students to enjoy and engage with music the same way I do. I truly believe that all students should enjoy their experience in music as there’s something for everyone.
