About Theodore Black
Theo is a 28-year-old guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Having graduated from Leeds Conservatoire in 2021 with a First Class Degree in Jazz Guitar, Theo now splits his time between gigging a variety of music throughout the UK, recording and releasing original material, working as a touring guitar technician and working as a private music educator. Open to all ages and abilities, Theo aims to help his students achieve their musical ambitions in a fun, exciting and positive way. Theo has recently moved to London to explore a new chapter in his professional music career.
Theo grew up in Cornwall and began learning guitar aged 7 with lessons from his local teacher. At the age of 13 he began gigging and writing his own music. Since then, he has been regularly performing and recording in various ensembles throughout the UK in an extensive variety of genres. Notable performances have included playing at The Royal Albert Hall, Boomtown Festival and Mercat De Música, Barcelona. He has also worked as a guitar technician at the Glastonbury Festival and Wembley Stadium.
With over ten years of experience in songwriting and composition, Theo specialises in facilitating the journey of his students as creators themselves. Passionate about the craft of songwriting, he also coordinates and hosts a monthly open-mic event at Hyde Park Book Club, providing members of the local community a space to share their own original material in a safe and supportive environment.
Teaching
Theo specialises in guitar, songwriting and improvisation, but he is also experienced within electric bass, banjo and ukulele. He always tailors lessons to the student's interests and abilities while introducing music theory and notation where necessary. He is able to help students through grades if requested by the individual, but also encourages students to push themselves within their preferred interests without an exam framework. Having fun is a priority because music is an incredible tool for exploring creativity and emotional expression!

With Theo’s ability, knowledge and passion for all music, he is eager and able to teach almost any genre. Outside of teaching he is regularly involved within jazz, rock, pop, folk, Brazilian music and electronic music.
