About Stephanie
Steph Baker is a professional singer/guitarist and knowledgeable singing teacher & vocal coach with over 10 years of performing experience. Steph specialises in Pop & Musical Theatre styles and focuses on boosting students’ confidence so they can perform on stage! Steph works with clients by giving them personalised vocal exercises for their needs. This strengthens their voice enabling them to improve their tone, projection, range, mix and belt! To get the most out of Steph’s vocal coaching, hourly weekly lessons are recommended, but not absolutely necessary to make progress.
In a lesson, Steph likes to have a chat with the student to see what music they are into and if you have any particular singing goals specific to them. Lessons will usually start with a warm-up, then sing something. Once Steph has heard the song, she dives into what areas the client needs to work on with exercises! Then at the end of the lesson she will review what they’ve done and set homework exercises to practice. Steph teaches online and 1-to-1 at her home studio in Wetherby. For your first lesson, you should prepare a song to sing, literally anything! A phone is good to have with you to record the lesson and bring up lyrics if needed.
Steph teaches all age ranges from aged 7 to 100 and all abilities ranging from absolute beginner to professional singers. Steph has lots of experience working with professional and amateur singers from across Yorkshire, and has worked for Musical Theatre schools such as TLA and Stagecoach as well as local primary schools. Steph holds a BAST (Be A Singing Teacher) certification, and is a qualified Vocology in Practice vocal coach. Steph has been working as a vocal coach for the last 7 years.
Steph has a BA Honours degree in Popular Music Performance, and has been working as a Solo Acoustic Singer/Guitarist performing at weddings, bars, pubs, events from the last 7 years since leaving university. She has first-hand experience performing which only aids her vocal coaching with clients looking to do the same. She also holds regular showcase events for students, giving them the opportunity in perform.
