About Stanley G.
Every lesson will be hands on and directed towards making you an independent player, to be motivated and able to improve at home. You’ll learn songs in genres and by artists you like. I want you to want to practice because you enjoy what you are playing.
Music has been my passion since I started learning to play the guitar at primary school. I was aged ten and ever since music has provided me with opportunities to learn skills, gain confidence, work with other people and perform in public.
Music is one of the very best ways to express yourself. It is an uplifting experience to play, and is exhilarating to do before an audience. I have pursued music throughout school and then college and in my spare time. I can think of nothing else that gives me as much as music does.
A decade of learning and playing guitar means I am highly accomplished on a variety of stringed instruments, including electric and acoustic guitars, ukulele and bass guitar. I know from my own experience how enjoyable and approachable these instruments can be for players of any age, with or without previous experience.
As well as developing techniques with your hands, I’ll train your ears so you can, whenever you want, apply and progress your new skills independently.
In your first lesson we will explore tuning, posture and how to look after your instrument before looking at your first chords and melodies. Before that first lesson, think about three songs you enjoy and would like to play. At the end of the first lesson we’ll discuss the art of listening and how I would like you to devote some time to listening to music before lesson two and beyond.
I teach RSL Rockschool grades in acoustic guitar, electric guitar and bass guitar.
