What might this look like practically?

The aim is to give you the tools to play the music you love, free from tension. It is important to think about establishing a mind-body connection from the start i.e. not just 'what', but 'how' are we playing? Does the body feel loose or are there areas of tension?

For example, the main part of the lesson might focus on learning a piece of music. Rather than being able to scramble through it as quickly as possible, we would focus on how we can truly learn this music inside out, so that we are able to play with as much ease and enjoyment as possible. This combines a focus on physical ease (posture, relaxation, how to direct weight), with reliable memorisation techniques (going past muscle memory to being able to map your way through the piece and pick up wherever necessary), and musicality (thinking about shape in the music, and what you would like to express).

Siriol has a BA (Hons) in Music from Oxford, and a Master of Music in Jazz Piano from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. She also holds an ABRSM Piano Performance Diploma, and has studied piano with Niel Immelman (RCM), Roger Owens (RWCMD), and Julie Garnham (EPTA), and composition with Prof. Robert Saxton (OXON).
