About Sim K

Sim did not have any interest in classical music until, at the age of 16, she watched a performance of a violinist on TV and thought, “this is it!”.

She then went on to study at Leeds Conservatoire and had the opportunity to take part in various ensembles and orchestral projects. She led the Leodian Orchestra in her first year as well as the Leeds Conservatoire Chamber Orchestra in her second year for an opera performance of their very own production, “The Paradise Club”. During her third year she did a few performances with her trio, the Amai Piano Trio. She also had the chance to play in an ensemble during the Women’s Day concert, alongside instrumental teachers, and as a soloist. And again she was chosen to lead a small ensemble for another original opera production of, “Earth Odyssey”.

Teaching Violin
Sim teaches any level and welcomes beginners of all ages.
She only teaches western classical music.

Beginners
If the student is a beginner, it is important to have their violin/bow/music stand/shoulder rest already with them before looking for a teacher. If they are unsure of what to buy then they may contact Sim and she will help them by sending links to age appropriate equipment.

First Lesson
The first lesson will differ slight for students depending on whether they are beginners or have learnt before.

For beginners, Sim likes to first talk to her students to discuss instruments/music/level etc so that she can get a grasp on what the student is looking for. After which, she thinks the student should get to know the instrument first. She will go through some parts of the violin and explain how it works as it is a beautiful instrument and should be handled carefully.

For non-beginners, Sim will ask them what they are working on and assess their level. Usually she will start work on scales before anything else. If they are working through a grading system then she will follow through with that. All of this will be done once she has talked with the student about what they would like to do and what their goal is.

Sim also welcomes anyone looking for guidance with audition pieces! Get in touch now by sending her a message!
