About Sharissa
Sharissa is a professional Pianist and Violinist with over a decade of teaching experience. The 'why' and 'how' behind the way we learn and play is at the heart of her teaching philosophy. Her accolades include a Bachelors in Music and a Masters in Ethnomusicology from The University of Manchester, as well as extensive competition and ensemble experience. Her lessons and teaching methods explore the academic, technical and holistic styles of musical education, that enables each student to get the most out of their instrumental lessons in a way that challenges and nurtures the student’s individual needs and goals.
Sharissa has experience teaching students of all levels and ages, including those who identify as neurodivergent.
WHAT WILL LESSONS BE LIKE?
Lessons are student-focused, tailored to the students goals and capability with check-ins throughout. The aim is to ensure that every student feels like they are being understood, heard and getting the most out of their lessons, and will work alongside them to find the right materials such as books and exercises that will best fit their needs.
For students that may need special guidance, such as those with neurodivergence or special educational needs, lessons will be accommodated with regular well-being check-ins and breaks. Exercises such as breathwork and meditation at the start and end of lessons are also taught to help with focus and understanding.
THINKING OF TAKING EXAMS OR AUDITIONS?
Sharissa is classically-trained in both Piano and Violin and can help prepare students for ABRSM Instrumental Examinations should they choose to do so. She will work alongside them to help get all facets of examination criteria to a level that will ensure they pass at their highest ability.
Sharissa's students have a 100% pass rate with many students attaining Distinctions.
GCSE & A-LEVEL MUSIC
Sharissa also offers extra GCSE and A-Level Music support, specifically with performance and examination technique. Tuition sessions will be used to break down the specifics of the syllabus criteria in written exam, performance and composition to help students achieve the best grade possible.
