About Serenna
Serenna is a flautist, pianist and performer who is enthusiastic about sharing her passion for music and encouraging young artists to grow and develop in their own creativity.
Serenna has been teaching children and adults since 2019, with experience of successfully teaching online via zoom and in-person. She is friendly and patient, tailoring each lesson to suit the individual student, progressing through grades or learning just for enjoyment! She is enthusiastic about teaching the pursuit of excellence and helping students reach their full potential, as well as having fun.
Alongside teaching Serenna is currently studying Music at the University of Edinburgh and is involved in solo and orchestral performance, where she achieved the Tovey Memorial Prize (2021) and came first in the Woodwind Recital Class at the Edinburgh Music Competition Festival (2023), for her solo performances.

Serenna is specialised in teaching classical music, but is also happy to help students explore other styles of playing.
Lesson Structure
A typical lesson would include these aspects, however Serenna is always happy to tailor and alter content to suit the needs of her pupils.
- Warm-up, technique and posture
- Developing a strong sense of rhythm
- Learning to read notation, with understanding on theory
- Learning to play pieces that each student enjoys
First Lesson
In a first lesson, Serenna will begin with an informal chat, to get to know each other, and discuss the students musical interests, experience and goals. If a student has had prior experience, she will ask to hear a piece or section of music to demonstrates their current ability and will introduce new repertoire and exercises, appropriate to their standard. Serenna understands that every pupil is different, with different need and interests and looks to create an environment and way of communication that allows each of her students to flourish.
Levels
Serenna has had experience teaching a variety of students, of different ages and levels, however she has mainly taught beginner-intermediate students. She is happy to teach beginner pupils with no prior experience in music, with no expectation to have played or read sheet music before and is happy to advise around buying to upgrading an instrument.
