About SarahJane

Violin and piano tutor based in Margate, Kent.

Sarah has experience teaching people of all ages from 4 years and above including adult learners. She is experienced in providing lesson with a variety of goals such as preparing for exams, concerts, and those just wanting to have fun and learn music. Sarah has had previous experience working as a trained music therapist and therefore can also cater for those with additional needs such as a learning disability or ASC. She is primarily a person centred teacher and I adapts materials and styles to match the needs of the students.

Sarah is classically trained in piano and violin but can also cover other styles such as pop piano and folk violin. Please do ask if there is something specific you would like to learn. Sarah plays locally in chamber orchestras and performs at weddings and events.

Sarah has been teaching violin and piano for over ten years and entered many students into exams, all of whom have passed. She will teach up to grade 8 on violin and grade 7 on piano.

The first lesson with Sarah will depend on the experience of the student and the instrument. You will need to have a piano or keyboard to practice on at home or your own violin. If the student is brand new to learning, she will provide some initial materials and then advise on the best books to buy. If you are already learning she might ask you to bring something to play to get an idea of where you are at. This first lesson will also be to assist in looking after instruments and any advice you might need as well as discussing what your goals are for learning.

Sarah teaches online from her house or can travel within the Thanet area if possible. She is open to teaching online on occasion, for example if either of us are unwell. Learning an instrument works best if the student can attend a weekly or fortnightly lesson and then practices in between these lessons. Sarah can advise on the best ways to do this and how to keep your motivation up or how to encourage practice in youngsters.

Please do get in touch if you are interested in lessons with Sarah.
