About Rory
Hi I’m Rory, an experienced violinist and dedicated educator with 6+ years of teaching experience. I am a soon to be graduate of RNCM's BMus program. I have performed alongside prestigious ensembles such as the Ulster Orchestra, BBC Philarmonic and Manchester Camerata. I have a deep understanding of the academic and practical aspects of music. I also have a keen interest in session music and studio recordings with upcoming artists in the pop sphere.
I have taught a variety of age groups and abilities both privately and in school. My experience in these environments has taught me a lot on varying my teaching method depending on each students needs. It has also given me the necessary tools in order to deliver high quality tuition.
I combine my professional expertise as a performer into my teaching. By doing this I find that it provides my students with greater understanding into what music performance involves and what it looks like, fostering growth and confidence. I have guided students through examinations with boards such as ABRSM.
I structure our lessons to prioritise your happiness and musical goals. Whether you are seeking to develop a current skill, achieve exam success or challenge yourself to learn something new for a source of enjoyment, I will take this on board and necessarily structure the approach I take. Specialising in classical music, I also have a keen interest in other genres such as pop, folk and jazz. I employ a diverse and innovative range of teaching techniques, such as incorporating improvisation, aural and theory teaching. This insures a well-rounded musical education.
We’ll start our work together through an induction lesson. This can be both in person or online. Here we will chat about goals/aspirations and collectively come to an agreement of what you are able to achieve and the necessary steps that are needed to be followed in order to do so. You may not know what you want yet and that’s ok. I will offer my guidance and advise you on whatever path you choose. The induction lesson is really to get to know each other and for you to decide if it’s something that you really want to do and if you can work with me. I will begin to introduce new students to their instrument and the care/maintenance that is required etc.
Feel free to drop me a message if you have any questions or want to find out more.
