It’s been about 40 years since I played a little trumpet at school. I was looking to restart and see where having a few lessons would take me. In my case, having the right teacher makes a huge difference. Richard is the consummate professional who takes you from where you are and brings you along at your own pace to wherever you want to go. He picks up on all the little things to help you play sweetly and musically. We're concentrating on inspiring pieces, not simply exercises. I started out thinking I’d just see how it goes, maybe play a simple tune — but now I’m really getting somewhere and feeling more confident with each lesson. Richard’s relaxed and friendly approach makes learning enjoyable, and his attention to detail means you’re always improving, even if you dont have lots of time to practice. I’ve come further than I expected, and that’s simply down to great teaching.

Rick is not only an incredible player who has inspired me to work harder, but also an incredible person. He has rare qualities as an educator and has put a great deal of thought and attention into ideas for how I could improve the technical aspects of my playing. He is so kind and supportive and a pleasure to work with.

Richard has been teaching my son for about a term now. He's built a lovely relationship with my son very quickly, and is able to get him enthused about both the musical and technical aspects of playing. Richard is an excellent and patient teacher, able to give us clear things to work on between lessons and build my son's understanding of how to play well.
