About Rebecka
Professional singer, pianist and composer offering lessons within the worlds of jazz, folk music and singer songwriter.
ABOUT ME
I am a London-based Swedish singer, lyricist and composer with a soft spot for the ocean, anecdotes and rusty orange. My music is a concoction of jazz and folk music traditions, whale song, bird whistles and other peculiar, beautiful sounds. I explore freely improvised storytelling and contemporary songwriting.
My debut album ’Något om en björk’ (’Something about a birch tree’) is a collection of little stories about he big world, recorded with my quartet Oknytt and released under my record label Rebecka Aurora in 2022. ’Något om en björk’ was nominated by Lira Music Magazine as one of the best folk jazz albums of the year. In 2023, I was awarded the Musicians’ Company Silver Medal, received the Director's Prize for Excellence and graduated as a Gold Medal Finalist with First Class Honours from Trinity Laban Conservatoire, where I studied a BMus in Jazz. Prior to that, I studied a combined degree in Composition and Scandinavian Folk Music, specialising in traditional singing and herding calls at the Music Conservatoire in Falun (Sweden).
I have performed my music at London Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, King’s Place, Green Note and many more renowned venues and festivals around Europe, together with esteemed musicians such as Rob Luft, Mark Lockheart and Bruno Heinen. I am the singer in drummer Corrie Dick’s Sun Swells Band and in saxophonist Asha Parkinson’s Kalpadruma Collective. My music has been played on various radio stations around Scandinavia and the UK, such as Jazz FM and Folkmusiken P2 (Radio Sweden).
