About Rebecca

Hello, I am a music graduate (class of 2014) who has been teaching for seven years. Teaching and singing are my absolute favourite things to do, helping someone become more confident in their voice and watching them grow is incredibly fulfilling for me. Since the lockdowns have been lifted I am thrilled to be back on stage performing and singing in musicals, choir, and at local gigs.

Experience:
My time at university was spent not only studying, but teaching and running the largest choir on campus as well as giving private singing lessons. In my second year I co-directed the music side of the musical theatre society's production, which was both brilliant and extremely busy. This involved teaching large groups, small groups and individuals on a regular basis.

I also spent that time getting my degree - the focus of this was on music education, contemporary classical and extended voice techniques, however I originally trained as a classical and musical theatre performer, gaining a grade 8 distinction in each style in 2011 and an LCM Diploma in musical theatre performance in 2017.

I took the plunge in October 2017 and started teaching full-time - the best decision I've ever made! - and since then I took 11 months travelling, worked full time for a couple of charities during a certain global pandemic, and I am finally ready to return to the cliche: if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life!

Teaching style:
I am a very flexible teacher, willing to let the student guide the voice work. Due to my wide range of experience, I am happy to cover a wide variety of skills and topics and have taught students with many different approaches to singing. I am a lifelong learner and I regularly go to three specialist teachers for my own lessons - keeping my voice in top shape and making sure the knowledge I pass on to my own students is as relevant and high quality as possible. Please note my piano skills are not good enough yet to accompany my students - I can play chords to support your singing whilst we are learning or working on a section of your song, and will leave the performance accompanying to the experts!
