About Phoenix
Phoenix (she/they) is a dynamic award-winning musician and teacher with a holistic approach to music education. They have had many years of experience in violin and piano performance as well as in composition. They have a deep understanding of many genres of music and have worked in classical composition, arrangements/orchestrations, pop music songwriting and band collaborations.
Phoenix has won awards such as the RNCM Gold Medal, The Francis Chagrin Award, first prize at the Larissa Panhellenic piano competition, the 'Right to Music Award' by the Athens State Orchestra and was shortlisted for the Royal Musical Association's 'Tippet Medal'.
Through their experience as an artistic director and conductor, they have acquired good leadership and organisation skills as well as patience. At the same time, their multifaceted career in performance and composition has given them a very deep understanding of music. They have taught violin, piano, chamber music, theory and composition at various levels and they currently run the Advanced String Orchestra and teach violin and piano at the Macclesfield Music Centre.
Phoenix studied composition at the Royal Northern College of Music with distinction with scholarships from the Countess of Munster Trust, George Henry Peters and the Ralph Vaughn Williams Foundation, receiving the highest final portfolio mark on record. Their compositions have been performed by performers and ensembles such as the Juliet Fraser, Greek National Radio Orchestra (ERT), Elias String Quartet, Riot Ensemble and Psappha Ensemble. My music has been distributed by NMC Recordings and performed as part of the Darmstadt Zeitströme Festival and Leicester International Music Festival. Currently, they are working as a composer with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Onassis Foundation and are receiving support from the PRS Foundation. They are also a songwriter, performer and artistic co-director of the art-rock band Sylvette and experimental electroacoustic duo 'Knowing the Oak Tree. Sylvette have received Multiple BBC Radio 6 air-plays and worked with producers such as Phil Cunningham from New Order, while 'Knowing the Oak Tree has toured around Switzerland, Germany and the UK with the support of various Swiss foundations.
As a performer, they have premiered over thirty new works, played in a variety of orchestras and ensembles and were the second violin of the Lux String Quartet...
