About Dr Peter
Piano, composition, theory and music technology lessons for all ages and abilities.
I am Dr Peter Falconer, and I want to help you live a more musical life! Piano, composition, theory, performance, and music technology lessons for all ages and abilities. Classical, pop, rock, jazz, blues, metal, electronic, ambient... whatever floats your boat, my goal is to help you express yourself through music in a way that makes sense to you!
I teach all subjects from my home in West Molesey on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, but will teach theory, composition and music technology over Zoom. Lessons cost £30 per half hour session.
I have a PhD in Music Composition from the University of Southampton, am an associate lecturer at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and have had pieces performed at several international festivals and by various acclaimed soloists and ensembles. I have spoken at various international conferences and regularly give seminars at universities around the UK. I originally trained in piano with Gaynor Lee and Dame Fann¥ Waterman.
Since 2002, I have been working as a professional gigging musician, performing lead vocals, keyboards, saxophone, drums and bass in several covers and original bands, as well as a pianist for weddings and restaurants. From 2014-2017 I was the lead vocalist, vocal arranger and lyricist for acclaimed Prog Rock band Drifting Sun, with one reviewer hilariously describing me as “a modern day Hercules of the microphone,” which is definitely going on my tombstone.
Piano students are, if they wish, entered into ABRSM or Trinity Rock exams, but these are entirely optional and not at all forced. I also prepare students studying GCSE, A-Level or BTEC music and music technology for their listening, theory, and performance exams.
I have an enhanced DBS check certificate, and am a qualified Mental Health First Aider, accredited by MHFA England.
