About Paul

Paul is a working musician with over 20 years of teaching experience. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Leeds College of Music and a Master’s degree from the University of Sheffield. He plays multiple fretted instruments and his musical activities include Ceilidih, Klezmer, Rock, Blues and pit bands for amateur shows. He has gigged from London to Glasgow but now prefers to stay closer to home. During term time, Paul teaches guitar and ukulele in schools. Outside of that environment he focuses on the Clawhammer Banjo and directs efforts towards arranging traditional English music and writing original music for the 5 string banjo and guitar

Paul is keen to work with students who have a interest in traditional music such as English folk or American Old-Time and Blues. He also has a vast experience of popular music genres and encourages students to learn according to their interests.

Lessons will be shaped around each student’s goals and current level of ability with ultimate aim that students will develop the techniques and listening skills to become musically independent in playing, arranging or writing music.

To this end, learning by ear is actively encouraged.
