About OLIVIA (BMus, MMus, MComp)

Olivia is a media/film composer and pianist of mixed British and Japanese heritage. She studied at the Purcell School of Music, the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria and is currently at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She has experience in improvisation (jazz and freestyle) as well as classical music and has performed as a pianist and chamber musician at various venues, including the Wigmore Hall and Southbank Centre. Her love for film and narrative led her to pursue a path within film music composition, and in 2022 she was offered a place at GSMD and is currently a junior fellow in the Electronic Music department, having graduated with distinction in 2024. Her music, while strongly influenced by her classical background, covers a wide spectrum of genres and is driven by her love of storytelling.

Olivia teaches students of all ages and is open to teaching, as well as piano, composition, music theory and singing. She offers help and support through ABRSM Grade exams but is open to teaching away from an exam-focused set-up as well. She specialises in classical music but also beginner jazz levels and beyond into other genres of music (film music/pop music/musical theatre).

Teaching takes place weekly, offering both 30-minute and 60-minute lessons as a starting point from a home studio with an acoustic grand piano. Olivia is focused on offering personal teaching which is flexible and caters to each student and what they wish to achieve or develop through lessons, whether that is building confidence as a performer or developing their musical knowledge and independent learning skills.
