About Oliver
Electric, Acoustic and Slide Guitar
Based in East London (N16) but can travel
With a little patience learning an instrument is not difficult, it's about being able to understand and speak the language of music, then a bit of practice so your fingers go where your brain tells them!
Chords, scales, keys, geners etc can all sound daunting, but once broken down they're simple. The good news is they're universal througout music, so if guitar is your first instrument, think of it not so much as learning guitar, but learning music- guitar is your medium.
It's suprising how quickly the mysteries will unravel and you will find yourself playing your favourite songs without thinking about it!
Goals will be discussed, then a plan of how to attain this with a realistic time frame arranged for each students personal preferences, in a genre or style that is aligned with them so it's all relevant.
There will be something to aim for at each step, you can see where the practice leads and it therefore feels less boring and more rewarding.
Lessons are intended to be fun and get you as quickly as possible to your end result without too much faffing and unecessary theory.
Right and left handed players are welcome, all ages, novices and more experienced players perhaps wanting to delve in to a different genre.
Most styles are covered, but specialising in blues, including;
~Acoustic fingerpicking styles
~Slide guitar
~Electric guitar
~Soloing/improvisation
Further lessons and advice can be given on how two or more guitars can work together to compliment each other for performance and recording. This includes important considerations such as rhythm (strumming, picking, electric, acoustic) and lead parts (acoustic, electric, slide), suitable (sometimes genre-specific) combinations (which types of guitar work well togther) and tones (this is a big one-with acoustics you need to consider string type, body shape and size, body material...with electrics the model of guitar, pickups and amps).
Oli is a friendly and experienced musician, having been a professional touring and recording guitarist for 25 years. He is currently working with Imelda May, Tanita Tikaram and Geraint Watkins.
Other artists Oli has worked with include;
Tony Christie, Robert Plant, Andy Fairweather Lowe, Bob Geldof, Jeff Beck, Ronn...
