About Oliver
Oliver is a professional pianist based in North West London, with a passion for educating others. He welcomes all ages and abilities, specialising in jazz, popular music and improvisation. His teaching skill set is very broad, and he is passionate about developing a personalised curriculum based on what the student enjoy most and working with them to achieve their goals, whether through traditional pathways or more unconventional. His foremost goal is to frame everything in a fun and engaging way, that will nurture a deeper love for music and motivation within the student’s own practice.
Oliver is very keen to work with new learners, and specifically has lots of experience with beginner adult students. Coming to piano at a later point in life can seem intimidating at first, and Oliver is very aware of these concerns. He wants to emphasise that learning music doesn't have to be tedious, and with the right approach you can quickly see immensely rewarding results. He is aware of the unique challengers adult learners face, whether busy schedules or self-doubts, and his supportive outlook takes everything at a pace that is suitable for the student, and is always happy to go over challenging topics again.
First lessons for beginners might look like:
- Introduction and informal chat: a chance for Oliver and the student to get to know each other and learn more about their background and interests.
- if the student wishes, to perform a piece of their choosing that shows their current ability. If the student doesn't have a piece to perform yet, Oliver can play a few songs to show what they could potentially work on
- Lay out a plan for the future: what can the student do straight away to start getting closer to their goals? Oliver will suggest some ideas that the student can easily start to improve their playing.
