About Ollie M.
Everyone deserves the best opportunity to learn to play the cello. To fall in love with a piece they are playing. To express themselves. This is central to Ollie’s teaching and everyone is welcome.
Ollie was a scholarship student at the Royal Birmingham conservatoire who graduated with the principles prize. He then went on to study with the renowned cello teacher Sue Lowe gaining the LTCL and FTCL performance diplomas. To develop his teaching further he completed the PGert Teaching Musician course at Trinity Laban.
Ollie teaches the Cello across London and Southeast England. He regularly organises Cello workshops and events as well as mentors the next generation of Cello teachers.
Cello Lessons:
All ages and abilities are welcome to Ollie’s in-person teaching studio.
With a friendly jolly approach, Ollie has taught hundreds of beginner cellists. He ensures that there is a good physical technique along with musical knowledge to help the student be free to express themselves whilst they are playing.
The pieces you learn can cover a range of styles which can be guided by your interests. Classical, Folk, Jazz and Pop.
If you’ve already started or returned to cello, we work towards the goals you'd like to achieve. Making sure those good foundations are in place
Instrument:
You will need to provide your own instrument for the cello lessons. If you would like advice on what to purchase or rent, Ollie will be happy to help.
Exams:
Ollie can prepare students for all ABRSM and TCL grade exams and diplomas.
Don’t like exams? You can still succeed with your music-making without having to take an exam.
He is happy to work with what you would like to do.
Practice:
Ollie will work with you and advise on how best to practice between lessons which will fit with your lifestyle and what you want to achieve.
He can prepare practice notes after each lesson or record the lesson and send the video to you to help with practice.
Auditions:
Ollie has successfully prepared many cellists for orchestral auditions, music scholarship auditions and junior conservatoire auditions.
