About Nicola P.

Nicola Prentice (nee Turner) was born in Edinburgh and began playing the clarinet when she was 11. Graduating from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with a BMus(Hons) in 2007, where she studied with Maximiliano Martin and Simon Butterworth, she moved to London where she completed an MA (Distinction) at the Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of Tim Lines, Angela Malsbury and Richard Addison.

Nicola has always been a keen orchestral player and has performed with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the London Contemporary Orchestra, the British Philharmonic Orchestra (with Andrea Bocelli) and Edinburgh Grand Opera in venues across the UK including Edinburgh's Usher Hall, the SECC in Glasgow and Leeds Arena.

Always a proactive and dedicated chamber musician, Nicola is the winner of the Nicholas Blake Ensemble Prize from the Royal Academy of Music for which she performed principal clarinet in Mozart's "Gran Partita" for 13 winds. She is also a founding member of the Scottish Wind Ensemble and the Cameo Clarinet Quartet, both of which have enjoyed performances at the Royal Overseas League during the Edinburgh International Festival.

Nicola is thoroughly active in the education system and has over 17 years experience teaching clarinet, clarineo, saxophone, piano, recorder and music theory to students of all ages and standards in both solo and group contexts. She has a vast amount of experience working with the ABRSM and Trinity Exam syllabuses and many of her students have competed very successfully in the Edinburgh Competition Festival. Nicola was the clarinet and saxophone teacher at Portobello Music School for several years before she moved south in 2017.
